Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you teach complete beginners?

I certainly do teach beginners and have many years experience of helping people who have no previous knowledge of playing to a point where they are confident guitar players. Straight away we will look at the kind of music you wish to learn. Aiming to play this way will get you making music in no time and rapidly develop your skills without too much ‘drill’ or exercises.

Do you teach children?

I do teach children and have taught many young students to learn to play the guitar over the years. I teach from the age of 5 years old and upwards - for more information about lessons for young learners don't hesitate to get in touch.

Where are you based?

I am based in Camden Town, (Arlington Road, NW1 7HD), a two minute walk from the tube station. I have plenty of teaching resources, equipment and guitars at my home studio so there is no need to bring your own instrument if that is inconvenient. I am also able to travel to you for lessons, there will be an additional travel charge for lessons held at a student's home as detailed on the "Prices" page. For more information about the location of my lessons simply get in touch.

Do you teach Electric AND Acoustic guitar?

I am happy to teach both Electric and Acoustic guitar. I teach everything from Acoustic ‘folky’ fingerstyle and strumming to Electric Rock guitar soloing and Jazz improvising. Whatever styles you want to learn, it is entirely up to you!

Do I need to own a guitar before I start my first lesson?

It is not necessary for you to own a guitar before starting lessons but it is preferable. Your own guitar, of reasonable quality, will become one you are familiar with and comfortable playing. It is for this reason that it is best to use your own during lessons, where convenient. It is certainly necessary for you to have regular access to a guitar as frequent (ideally daily) practice is essential for the development of you guitar skills.

What happens if I need to cancel a lesson?

That is no problem at all, just contact me as soon as you can to let me know, this enables me to offer that time slot to another student. We can re-arrange our planned lesson for another suitable time. Please note that Guitar Lessons London operates a 48 hour cancellation policy, whereby, if you cancel your lesson within 48 hours of your lesson slot you will be charged the full price of that lesson with no exceptions.

Can I study grades?

Although I have limited experience of the grades system I can certainly help you prepare for taking either Rock School or Registry Of Guitar Tutors exams.

Do I have to attend guitar lessons every week?

No you don’t. Many people do feel that weekly lessons help them to stay focussed and progress steadily and children will very often benefit from weekly lessons. However, many of my students attend every other week and some ( more advanced ) as and when they feel they need to ‘top up’ their knowledge. You will certainly take away enough from each lesson to keep you busy for a couple of weeks but frequent lessons tend to mean more rapid progress.

Do you have a Google+ Page?

Yes, I do! It is a great place for keeping up with all the things that are happening here at Guitar Lessons London, you can check it out here - Guitar Lessons London Google+ Page

Electric & Acoustic Guitar

I cover all styles on both electric and acoustic guitar, enabling my guitar students to learn through the playing the songs that they love. Whether that is rock, pop, jazz, funk, blues, folk or anything in between we can cover it in our lessons. I have taught many beginner students over the years, developing a fantastic course of foundation lessons to enable my students to learn how to play the guitar at a pace that suits them.

For more advanced guitarists I offer lessons to ensure that you reach that next level on guitar, whether that is improving improvistation, nailing solos or gaining a more rounded approach to playing guitar to a professional standard.
